This project was assigned through the commercial design studio at Auburn University. The project is to create a new office space for the given company: Reddit. Each student was placed into a group that they worked along side with for the entirety of this project. Each member of the team was given a floor to work on more specifically than others, while still collaborating with the team overall. All members were to work on the atrium design as well.
As Reddit Munich is the first office outside of the United States, and the new headquarters, the design goal for this space is aimed to blend the straight forward and conservative office spaces in Germany with the future focused collaboration spaces that are popping up more frequently in the states. Having maximum comfort and productivity in the work place is the goal for the design at hand. The office space in the building will consist of private offices and meeting spaces, as well as larger flexible meeting areas to encourage collaboration among the employees. German culture emphasizes personal health and well being so specific rooms were set aside to aid this. A mediation room, green house patio with optional self-gardening spaces, and a gym (sponsored by Nike) are accessible to all employees and available 24/7. The entirety of the spaces are centered around an atrium which the top floors overlook. The atrium holds a bar, which is shaped like the head of Reddits branding mascot (a snoo), which helps to promote making connections within the community. It also has a tie back to a German tradition known as Octoberfest. One can also find a chocolate shop, called "sugar & snow", within the atrium as well that is also in the shape of a snoo head. The Reddit office as a whole will not only be a place of work, but a place where each employee can feel comfortable enough to call it their second home.
